Big news

Probably, you've heard by now that Martin Sabo is retiring. This comes as a pretty big shock, to say the least. Who is going to jump in the race? Who will be able to put together a successful campaign between now and the 5th CD convention on May 6th? There are lots of names, but nothing certain at this point.

I have no idea what will happen. If, however, Mike Erlandson runs, I don't think I would be terribly inclined to support him. Of the people listed in the Star Tribune story, I find Sen. Scott Dibble to be most intriguing right now.

There's a seat Steve Kelly could win.

I think people mentioning Steve Simon may be jumping the gun a little. The guy has less than one term in the legislature under his belt. Simon's a great guy, from what I understand, intelligent, articulate, and so forth, but he hasn't had the time to build up the connections he'd need to win at the 5th's convention.

I suppose I'd better be careful before making sweeping assertions like that, but still, he's a really, really new face, and might be a little too moderate for a lot of the delegates.

Come on, completely unsubstantiated rumors and libel have no place here.

What about Mike Dolan? He's not very well known--he's been on the central committee for a few years--but those that know him like him. Plus, rumor has it that as of today he's secured enough back-room support from across the country to fund his campaign through the primary, if necessary.
