Katherine Kersten's Korner

Today's kolumn is about an utterly pointless issue: what the mascot of UND is. It's not like there is anything else important going on in this world.

So what your really saying is that you have no argument with her because she did a great job of sourcing and you agree with her. Even if she should written on a completly different subject that you might like to disagree with in some way. Is that about right?

She did a great job? "It must have been hard to rally people around [a small, wide-eyed ground squirrel]." Imagine! The University of Minnesota Gophers don't seem to have a problem with their rodent mascot. Any journalist worth her salt would have thought of this (I don't need to say that this goes double for one working in MN with a degree from the U of MN) and at least tried to explain why people are able to get behind a Gopher as a mascot, but not a Flickertail. I also wonder whether Kathy's Laissez Faire attitude would extend to the 'Proselytizing Jesuses' or the 'Flaming Crosses'. I think I would die of shock if she had an opinion that wasn't exactly what everyone would expect from her.

No, I think that anybody who spends any time thinking about such pointless issues needs to get a life. Anybody who writes a newspaper column on the issues really needs to get a life.
