Farm Bill

Here's an idea for the new farm bill: how about no farm bill at all? No subsidies. No price supports. No programs. No corporate giveaways (let's expand that to all businesses).

Why should we have governmental control of agriculture through quotas and price controls?

By the government stopping subsidies, they would lose that last stranglehold of control they have over farmers and the land they farm. My parents have had many battles with governmental agencies regarding such tedious items as managing the water flowing through their privately-owned and financed drainage ditch. If the government stops farm payments, then they need to get out of the farm business all together.

Why do liberal city-dwellers hate farmers so much?

"How about the government get out of subsidizing light rail altogether? We don't need it up here in Roseau!"

Same principle.

Since the government regularly pays farmers to not produce and an incredibly large amount of perfectly good food is destroyed each year, it stands to reason that there are simply too many farms. I see no reason why people's taxes should be used to pay someone to do nothing and then artificially inflate the price we pay to eat.

Everyone on both the left and right is always screaming about welfare reform and I think the farming industry would be a great place to start.

$46 Billion a year spent. That's roughly $153/year for every single person in the US. Then we get to pay inflated prices and then in many areas we also pay sales tax. If excess food were going to feed the hungry, instead of either not being produced or destroyed, I wouldn't really object to spending $153 each year but I'm paying and paying and paying again for the opportunity to pay more while people in this great nation go hungry. That's pretty twisted if you ask me.

Government invests in transportation infrastructure. Most people see that as a valid use of government and would not argue that private companies need to own I-94 or our other roads, buses, and forms of transit. But food production?

Besides, there will be no shortage of food should we stop subsidizing farms. The government doesn't need to "create" a market for food. Subsidizing farms just makes no sense to me.

There has been a lot of rants after 2016 election of what massive influence farming subsidies have, Trump won farmers hearts to get the college votes, who had more votes doesn't even matter anymore, though his opponents have used all measures possible to push for moving away from electoral college, though I would say that it's collection of states that vote, not all people as one, state rights matter. Let's just buy runescape gold and go home to play alright? election is over. Farmers are being hurt by the tariffs from around the world, but eh, it's who they voted for, so in best case scenario, it's short term pain for long time gain.
