Bachmann keep it coming

Senator Michelle Bachmann keeps on driving the crazy train. Now she is supporting a David Horowitz-inspired bill to chill academic freedom. See, some conservatives are unhappy that they still have to see liberals in the world. They no longer exist in any branch of the federal government, they don't exist in the media, but there is still apparently a pocket at colleges. So this bill would "fix" that.

In all the classes I took at the University of Minnesota, I had professors of all ideological stripes. I never saw one student punished for being conservative. I did see students get bad grades for having closed minds, doing poor work, and in general being bad students. Ideology had nothing to do with it.

College students are adults. They can handle hearing differing viewpoints. There's no need for this intimidation.

You probably mean David Horowitz, not David Brock.

Good catch. I knew I should have double checked. Two Davids, one a former right-wing tool who saw the light, the other a current right-wing tool...I'm easily confused.

I think I read somewhere that the senator went to a law school affiliated with Oral Roberts University. I heard her say in a soundbite today that back in her student days, professors did not express political or religious leanings. Oral Roberts University? Who is she kidding?

It's even more confusing than that...Horowitz used to be a left-winger.

So they both switched. Brock is less apoplectic though (and gay) so that should help keep them separate.

Bachmann did go to the law school at Oral Roberts.
Couldn't find a more intense school from the Religious Right.
She wants mental telepathy and astrology taught in state colleges.

This constant, unrelenting, whiny victimhood emanating from the right is really becoming tiresome. At some point, after say they control all branches of government, their claims of being an opressed minority would seem to ring hollow.

They know their time in power is limitied, so they are striving to do as much damage to our country in the time that they have.

Resistance is NOT futile.

Sigh...

The only "abusive" prof's I've had (both at the U of MN and St. Thomas) were ones that would push you to defend your argument. Not because they had an opposing viewpoint but because they wanted you to _think_.

But I guess we don't need that in our schools any more... we'll just coddle the young adults so they can feel like they are still in high school.

sigh...

First they whine.

Then, as Mr. Miller has so thoughtfully illustrated for us, when that doesn't work they will attempt irrlevant smears (the tactic og right-wing blog trolls everywhere).

Thanks for reminding us how low Republicans will go.

Lots of letters against her bill in the Strib this morning. Note the one from the student where Horowitz spoke. Bad reasoning and logic was used. It's nothing more than the creating of Thought Police.
You're right: resistance is NOT futile.
Wake up, stand up, speak out!
