Carol Molnau getting replaced?

I haven't heard this rumor. Doesn't seem very likely to me. I don't see how Molnau can hurt Pawlenty's chances. The article also says that Hatch told a bunch of people that he is running for governor but won't announce until Labor Day; I know that he's running, and it has been a pretty poorly kept secret for a while.

The only new thing I have heard recently is that there may be unrest over leadership in the House. But that's not new, is it?

The Molnau speculation may be based in truth. As for unrest with House leadership, it is no secret that rural DFLers are upset with Matt Entenza and I can guarantee there is no unrest with House Republican leadership.

trillin, I'm all for the DFL finding new faces to run, but I wouldn't write off Mike Hatch. Because, if not him, who?

Steve Kelley? I've seen him on TV and on the Senate floor. He's too flat. He doesn't want the job bad enough. There's not enough passion there to carry the kind of message it'll take to beat Pawlenty, at least, in my opinion. Plus, he's a Senator, at a time when the term "state legislature" is as unpopular as I've ever seen it.

Bud Philbrook? Mmm, maybe. He has a resume that people might find appealing. And Minnesota does have a soft spot for "quirky" underdogs. There's been next to no coverage of him in the state media. His campaign seems to be trying to fly under the radar and live off the land right now. At this point, it's too early for me to form a judgment about him.

The reason I wouldn't write off Hatch is because the guy's a fighter. When the GOP tries to give him a slime bath with a fire hose in the campaign's final days, I don't think Hatch will just stand there with his thumb up his butt like some other Democrats I could name. Kelley, I fear, would. Philbrook yet to be determined.

We'll see who, if anyone, else jumps into the race.
